Understanding Reiki

Energy Healing Explained

Reiki is a type of healing that started in Japan in the early 1900s. The name "Reiki" comes from two Japanese words: "Rei," which means "universal," and "Ki," which means "life energy." In short, Reiki is about using the practitioner's hands to transfer this universal energy to the patient, helping them feel better and heal.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is based on the idea that everything, including our bodies, is made of energy. When this energy flows smoothly, we feel healthy and lively. But sometimes, this energy gets stuck or out of balance, which can cause physical or emotional issues. Reiki helps to balance this energy and clear any blockages so that our body's natural healing processes can work better.

In-Person Reiki Sessions

During an in-person Reiki session, the patient either lies down, or sits in a chair, with their clothes on, while the practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above the patient's body in specific spots. They hold each position for a few minutes, letting the energy flow from their hands into the patient. People often say they feel warmth or a tingling sensation during the session, and many find it extremely relaxing.

Remote Reiki Sessions

Remote Reiki sessions, also known as absent or distant, provide the same benefits as in-person sessions but are done from afar. The practitioner connects with the patient's energy remotely and directs healing energy to them. The patient can be in a comfortable spot, like their home, either lying down or sitting. During the remote session, the patient may feel warmth, tingling, or calmness. Many find remote Reiki effective and convenient, especially if they can't attend in person.

Reiki Benefits

Reiki offers numerous benefits, including:

  • Reducing stress and promoting relaxation
  • Enhancing the body's natural healing abilities
  • Improving sleep quality
  • Relieving pain and discomfort
  • Balancing emotions and enhancing mental clarity

It's important to note that while many people report positive experiences with Reiki, it should not replace conventional medical treatment. Instead, it can be used as a complementary therapy to support overall well-being.
